Hands-on Activities at KTH Royal Institute of Technology

Building networks with partner universities overseas

The University of Tokyo’s Graduate School of Engineering has academic agreements with overseas universities to promote international research activities. (see:http://www.oice.t.u-tokyo.ac.jp/) The Japanese Language Course, School of Engineering (JLCSE) has built networks and shared information with them so that the partner universities overseas that send their exchange students and The University of Tokyo can pursue Japanese language education smoothly.

Promoting internationalization of Japanese students

We plan and manage programs to encourage academic exchange in partnership with Japanese language programs at partner universities overseas in order to give Japanese students the opportunity to experience an international academic environment through short-term study-abroad programs, to think about what the significance of study abroad is through interacting with people, and to experience the fun of improving themselves. Students get to experience study-abroad programs by participating in lectures and seminars at partner universities with local students who speak Japanese, giving academic presentations in English, and visiting labs and Japanese Language Classes. They can make this the first step toward long-term study abroad in the future.

In 2016, the JLCSE took the initiative to launch Hands-on activities for Japanese Language Course at IIT-Kanpur. The Hands-on activities were offered at the KTH in 2017. In 2019, we have hands-on activities at the Technical University of Munich (TUM).

With funding from the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (a five-year plan), we launched activities in collaboration with the California Institute of Technology in fiscal year 2018. This included exchange programs such as visiting the United States in fiscal year 2019 and both visits to and from Japan in fiscal year 2022. Since fiscal year 2022, the program has been officially titled 'International Collaborative Practice VI' (1 credit) and continues to promote exchange activities between students of both countries, including visits to the United States and Japan.

In addition, we have accepted a short-term program from the University of Cambridge and conducted hands-on activities at the University of Cambridge since FY2024.

These exchanges with partner universities are as follows.
