Events and workshops that promote a deeper understanding of Japanese culture through actual experiences.

Annual events (for international students)

Rakugo Experience Dr. Matthew Shores, a scholar of Japanese literary arts and entertainment, will perform rakugo (traditional comic storytelling) in Japanese and English. Don't miss his expressive faces and dynamic gestures!
Yukata Workshop Volunteers teach how to put on a yukata. Many students have recently wanted to try wearing yukata for fireworks displays.
Tea Ceremony Green tea is popular overseas as maccha. “Tea Ceremony Workshop
Tanabata Write down your wishes on a strip of paper and put it up on a bamboo branch. The bamboo branch will be full of messages written in international students' newly learned Japanese or their mother tongues.
Anime event(Challenge to be a voice actor!) We will invite voice actors (Mr. Daishiro Hano) to teach us how to do voice acting. Students who love anime and manga are welcome to participate!
Kimono Experience Volunteers teach how to put on a kimono. Many students have tried yukata but not kimono. Students enjoy visiting different parts of the campus and taking pictures after dressing in kimono, creating a colorful atmosphere.
Oshiruko Experience Enjoy hot oshiruko (sweet red bean soup) on a cold day after the New Year's Day. We will cut the New Year's mochi on this occasion. You can try fresh sweet oshiruko with the mochi.
Origami Workshop An origami instructor will teach us various origami, starting from easy ones to slightly challenging ones. Let's enjoy the world of origami art together. There will also be a mini-game of flying paper airplanes for added fun.
Calligraphy Workshop Students from the University of Tokyo Calligraphy Club will be teaching. In the end, everyone can challenge themselves with their favorite kanji characters, followed by a commemorative photo session!
